Sorry for not writing last week!  It was General Conference and that threw off my Sundays!  Every year for General Conference we make Orange Rolls.  As part of the recipe we are supposed to cut the dough in 1/2… I forgot and we ended up with HUGE orange rolls!  It was amazing!

As we sit down and try to think about things that have happened not too much comes to mind.  We are just BUSY!  I went to Utah for a week and Debbi held down the Fort.  Don’t ask her about that Fateful Tuesday where the kids had to all be at different places all night and there was a curriculum night and there was a class meeting for Kay and… and… and I was in Utah!  Needless to say she was running all over the place!

Bekah is busy with school and band stuff!  Here is a Picture of her dressed up for Athletics Day this year.  She is going to be on the cross country running team again.

One of my favorite things is matching my family… I especially love when my kids match each other!  🙂

Here is a video tour of Bekah’s room too (NOTE: she likes to say “Ja” a lot right now in place of yeah.. it’s cute… she has convinced some people at school that she is not from the US)

Kay – These past couple of weeks have been exciting for Kay!  She ran for student council in her class and got into that.  And now she is running for the President of Student Council in her class. There is one other guy running as well (who happens to be in our ward… lol.).  She’s been busy going to honor choir as well these past couple of weeks and is really liking it!

One night this past week she proudly told us how Joseph was teaching her some magic tricks this week!  Here is a video of our magicians. 🙂

Spencer  loves to swing!  He has always loved to swing and the feeling of flying through the air.  We have hammocks upstairs that the kids have turned into a swing around the pole.  Here is a video of them swinging:

This past week was the raingutter regatta for scouts.  We weren’t sure if we were going to be able to make it, but last minute we could so we threw together a boat!  Here is a video of one of the races he won.  He won 2 and lost 2.  It was a good night overall!

Joseph has been in BAND!  Does it sound like I’ve said this before?  Yeah… that is his life right now… the nice thing was that he had Friday during he day off (no school) and tomorrow (Monday) as well.  It is well deserved and needed!  Last night their band WON the Grand Championship (which is like the super champions) at the competition they did.

Since we last talked Joseph discovered Queen and the Bohemian Rapsody.  It as pretty awesome to hear him enjoy some of the things I enjoyed as a kid!  Here is a video of breakfast one day!

Debbi finished up her sashes!  They turned out amazing!  She survived last week (barely) and is looking forward to being with her BEAR Woodbadge patrol this weekend as they finish up.

I was in Utah for a week enjoying nature and got to go to an amazing conference and rub shoulders with some sweet folks, got to go to a BYU game with some amazing friends from Utah, and even attend a temple session.

This week I hired on a new director of software development and leased out some suites at a new office space in Plano.  Pretty exciting stuff happening at work too.  The Lord is so good and we are so blessed.  Love y’all!  Have a GREAT week!

Another week has come and gone… got to love Fall here in the VanDrimmelen house.  In some ways everything is the same as last week.. just moving along and enjoying life!  Nothing too exciting so here is a video of us just hanging out getting ready for dinner… 🙂

A few highlights of the week!

1) Mom (Debbi) was gone Thursday morning through Saturday night at Woodbadge training.  It’s a Boy Scout training program for those that have not heard of it where she goes and camps out and learns a ton about how to be a great leader.  I went last year and LOVED it and my WONDERFUL wife went this year!  Here is a picture of here in her and her patrol (the mighty, mighty BEARS!)

2) That means that I was holding down the house.. lots of lucky charms and hanging out with the kids… good news… no one died!  🙂

3) Joseph had his first band competition this past Saturday and was gone all day.  They did pretty good (got 6th out of 10th place or something like that).  He is enjoying and their full show should be done in the coming weeks.   Here is a run through from a family performance on Friday night… He is the saxophone wearing blue shorts and a hat… The ones I keep coming back to in the video:

4) Bekah says the most exciting thing of her week is that she is still passing Algebra.  I’m not sure that really counts for an update… So I’ll also say that she and Kay got to go to WordCamp DFW yesterday with me.  It is a conference where they learn to build websites and they had a kids track where they got to hang out with other kids.  It was “tons of fun!”

5) This week Kay was on Safety Patrol at school.  What that means is that she got to go to school early and stand in the drop off lines and help younger kids to class.. Even cooler is that she got go to to class late!  She also made the district Elementary Honor Choir and had her first rehearsal this week.  Turns out she’s a soprano.  Who knew?  :).

6) Spencer got to spend all day yesterday with Grandma Van, which means unlimited technology and food!  Woot woot! What could possibly be better than that?!  He still is loving Domino creations and here is a video of his latest creation.

7) On Saturday we all go to to go and have a birthday dinner with my wonderful mom.  It was great to see her… She’s 29 for the 30th time… :). We put together a video of all of us and the grandkids wishing her happy birthday… Of course she cried… :).  It’s almost like it’s not a challenge any more… 🙂

8) As for me… I’m just trying to enjoy each moment with the family as I can.  Work is going well and keeping me busy.  I’m looking to hire a Custom Software Engineer, or Custom Software Manager… Or what ever they want to call themselves (This is small business after all…  We can call them the Software Happineness Engineer if we want…).  This week I go out to Utah for a conference and am sneaking out a few days early to spend some time in the mountains communing with the Lord.  I am getting complaints that I never post pics of me so here are a few pictures from me this week.  🙂

The first one is our new trent middle school band shirts… that is a timberwolf claw with music on the background.  It’s pretty neat.  The second pic is me and a guy that works for Automatic ( at the conference yesterday.  You can see my CedarWaters garb there.  He actually knows one of my old students that worked for me at UNC days who now works for WordPress… it’s pretty cool.. I took a picture and sent it to her.

Have a great week y’all!  Sure do love you all!img_0626

18 September Update

with one comment

Another week had come and gone in the VanDrimmelen home.   Life is busy and exciting!  These are truly days never to be forgotten!  Here are a few updates!

On Monday night we got to spend some time together and it was beautiful outside!  Here is a pic of Kay and Spencer!

That same night Spencer was exploring some larger dominoes and seeing if he could get a little creative.  🙂

And Joseph was busy trying to melt aluminum (NOT: apparently melting Aluminum in an aluminum container does work… Who knew? )

We ended the night with some frosty’s from Wendy’s around the fire… Always good to spend some time together!

This week Debbi got pulled into helping making sashes for the band.. She made dozens and dozens of these sashes for their show (I’m sure more to come on those).

The rest of the week passed without too much excitement.  On Saturday Joseph had a marching performance and decided he should wear his super awesome China hat… I got a chance to wear it afterward while mowing the lawn and it is truly amazing!

The highlight of the week was certainly last night when Grandma Huebner (My Grandpa, the kids Great Grandpa) came to visit for a few hours.  He got time to spend with all the the kids (and us). Here is a pic I took and he saw one of Kay’s drawings (after she was in bed) and I recorded him talking about it to her…

Today is pretty chill around here.  I am writing a bit and relaxing and I took a video of Bekah playing piano (I sure do love seeing her play).

That’s about it from our land!  I hope you are all well!

Another Week… Another Buck Three Eighty

with 3 comments

When I was growing up when we would ask my Dad how he was doing he would often say “Oh you know, another day, another buck three eighty.”  That’s about how I feel. Another week… another buck three eighty today.   Life is good.  Just chugging along… lots going on with school and life.  Here are a few highlights for the week!

Joseph had his first marching performance of the year.  It was at the recently opened Ford Center here in Frisco.  It is the practice facility for the Dallas Cowboys and they share it with the Frisco School District so we get to go and play football games there.  It was really nice.  As I looked around I couldn’t help but again to feel so blessed.  We really do live in a nice place with a TON of parental support.  At the game there must have been 7,000 people there… The HIGH SCHOOL football game.  It is a lot of fun and we get to see a ton of folks from the ward as well.

Here is their first performance of their show.  NOTE:  They have not finished their on field props.  Those boxes are going to be piers to go along with their show which is focused on the sea.  I’ll add more info for that once Joseph is around and I can ask him for details.  But enjoy:

In other Joseph and Spencer finally got some new Suits.  They are looking slick!

Bekah and Dad spent some time “bonding” this afternoon.

Kay had her city Honor Choir tryouts this weekend.  We’ll know tomorrow if she made it or not.  She’s been working hard on some super nice drawings of Harry Potter and one that she made for her art teacher.

This afternoon Spencer as having some fun with Dominos.  Here is a video of his creation!

Debbi land has been busy as of late preparing for the Primary Program in the ward.  For those that don’t know she works with the leadership of the children’s organization in our church.  There are about 100 kids in the organization and once a year they prepare a program where the kids all talk and teach the congregation for Church.  It is one of the best Sunday’s of the year as the little children literally teach us.  :).

The last exciting thing in our life is that this week we said goodby to Black Stallion (the Black Honda Accord we had) and upgraded to a F-150 Blue Truck.  We’re still trying to figure out names, but are leaning toward Zeus, Titan, and Spartan.  :). So if you are in need of a truck or help with moving or towing… CALL ME! I love to help and am so grateful to have a truck again.

The Most Exciting Time of Year

with 3 comments

It’s that wonderful time of year again when we get to put all the kids back in school.  It has been way too long since we posted on here.  Life continues to truck along. One big thing this summer was our trip to Yellowstone.  We had a great time with the extended VanDrimmelen family and all the kids got to hang out with their cousins.  We saw the Lyman/ Lea clan in Southern Utah and also for a day up in Evanston with the Wirick’s.  There are tons of pictures but we’ll just post this one picture of our family in all of our matching Yellowstone shirts/hats.  (I LOVE to match!  The kids amuse me.)

See that “V”… that’s the VanDrimmelen sign yo!  (Okay, I realize I’m too old to say that… but hey… what do you do?  🙂 ) A few updates from the family!

Other than that we are trying to spend some good time together as a family when we can.  Yesterday we went to this awesome little 50’s gas station that was turned into a restaurant up in Pilot Point.  It was fantastic!  The owner there Chaz is this awesome old guy who just comes and sits and talks with you and makes the best volcano (super hot) French fries.  :).  Here is a picture of us having some grub outside … What you can’t see is that the gas station pump is right next to us.. We are right in the drive there.  Nom nom nom!

Joseph – He says most exciting thing for him is that he is not a Freshman any more… :). He is SUPER busy with band this time of year.  In addition to spending his last two weeks of summer marching all day (some days he went in at 8am and got done at 9pm) he is still marching every day during school and then each night he has marching right after school till 7pm or so.  It is all paying off and they sound great with this 250+ kid band.   They have had 2 games so far this year and spend about every Friday at games for the next couple of months.

Here is a picture of Joseph in his room.  This is pretty typical of him right now. You may or may not be able to see, but on the ground are a bunch of his “projects”. There are some metal roses, forge (or melting metal projects), some book related things, ideas, card tricks, etc.  All the posters on the wall are pics from New Era’s.  Oh, he has an electric guitar and Ukelele, but can’t really play them yet.

Joesph also has this “brownie” he makes… In the microwave.  Yes, you read that right… The microwave.  It is pretty dang awesome.

Here is the recipe:

  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • Pinch of salt
  • 2 TB of Cocoa Powder
  • 2 TB of Oil
  • 3 TB of Water
  • Microwave for 1:30-1:40.  Enjoy!

Rebekah – She says that the most exciting thing for her is that she figured out her Halloween costume she is going to wear at the Halloween band concert.  She says she is going to be Rowana Ravenclaw on a Saturday – She’s got flip flops and basketball shorts.  A shirt with an inspiring quote and on the back on the shirt is something funny (TBD) and she is wearing her diadem.  Yeah, that is about a perfect example of what is exciting for Bekah.  She loves Harry Potter now a days… Her room is covered in Harry Potter paraphanalia.  She read all the Harry Potter books again this summer.  She spends her free time reading Harry Potter theories online.  Ah, the life of an 8th grader.  🙂

Kay – Kay is in 5th Grade this year… Here in Frisco ISD that  means she is the BOSS of the school!  This year the new elementary school opened in our neighborhood which is SUPER exciting because now Kay and spencer can walk or ride their bikes to school.  She is enjoying getting to know new folks and is in the choir at school.  This week when Deb and I were at the school on Friday her Choir teacher saw us and told us how much she loves Kay.  🙂

She and Mom have been working on this REALLY HARD puzzle.. Like super hard.  Not only did it have 1000 pieces, but the pieces were really strange.  There were pieces that looked like they fit on the edges that went in the middle… And tons of very unique shapes… Which you think would make it easy, but it did not because pieces that looked like they fit did not, and pieces that looked like they would not fit, did.  :). It took them several weeks to complete this puzzle, which is a really long time for them!  What’s worst of all when they got done they were MISSING 5 pieces!  This is their super sad faces.  🙁

Spencer – Spencer is in 4th Grade this year at Miller too!  He loves his teacher and rides his bike FULL blast to school every day.  When I was a kid and we went snow skiing I used to go down the hill AS FAST AS I CAN.  He is like the Texas version of me… Really everywhere he goes.  His bedroom is right above ours and I can hear him when he wakes up in the morning and RUNS to the bathroom and runs back.  He only has one speed right now and that’s okay.  We love it.
This week while he was running around the park at a band event he almost stepped on this spider… Seriously!  He then ran and told me and I ran ove to check it out!  It was amazing! I tried to get Debbi to let us keep it.. But alas she wouldn’t let me… 🙁

Spencer still loves to play with his Legos and make things for the turtles.  This is their outside enclosure.  🙂

– Where to start with Debbi?  She is not here right now to ask what is exciting because she is at a meeting for the Primary.  That is pretty typical for her right now.  She is running a thousand miles a day getting kids where they need to go.  She get’s dinner on the table EVERY night for us… And she takes care of me… Let’s be honest folks… This is a full time job in itself.  This past week my WONDERFUL mother sent us these amazing chocolate strawberries to say thanks for helping her move.  We took a picture of course… And you’ll see again here ho which I LOVE to match my family (seriously people… I’m not even kidding… I really do love it).  We have our Miller Elemntary shirts on from going to the kids Miller Friday celebration (families can come) and our matching CedarWaters hats.

As for me, I’m just trucking along. The Lord is blessing us tremendously in work and I’m grateful for that.  The hardest problem I have is figuring out how to grow the company in the right way with the right folks.  We are truly blessed though and I’m so grateful for that.

We’re enjoying the Sabbath today and playing some cards with my goofy kids and amazing wife!

Love you all!  have a great week!

It’s been a few weeks since a good update!  Here are a few of the happenings!

First off we have Rebekah. You may or may not know Rebekah, with her little dwarfy legs, is part of cross-country team.  This past week she had her first meet!  It was so exciting as we stood on the sideline as she ran by and cheered for her… here’s a video:

And here are some pics of her afterward chugging some water and hanging with her teammates.

bekah-drinking bekah-cross-country-team

She has practice ever day after school and usually runs a couple of miles and then comes home and eats a ton of food.  🙂

Kay McChicken foot had a concert last week that we didn’t get a chance to post.  She goes to choir a few times a week early at school (7am… she says it “sucks” to go that early… but really she likes it).  Here’s a video of her singing:

This past week Spencer had a project for school where he had to show a “procedure”.  He decided to make french toast.  He made up a cool poster for it all (but that is toast now), so here are a few pics.

IMG_3171 IMG_3167 IMG_3165 IMG_3159

For those that are not in Texas you probably don’t know but a couple of months ago Joseph discovered he could figure out how to do magic tricks with the help of youtube… now he usually carries around a deck of cards and it is his preferred method for impressing girls (which he has also become obsessed with recently).

I asked him to let me video tape a few of his tricks… here you go. 🙂

This past week in Jeff & Debbi land has also been super exciting.  As you may know I have been working for Osky Blue ( for the past 2 1/2 years as a partner.  We’ve seen some amazing growth and I have learned a ton.  This past week an opportunity arose for me to take the Custom Software Development part of the company and split it off from Osky Blue.

After much pondering and praying Debbi and I decided to go ahead and do that.  We took the web development team, some marketing folks, some designers, and all the custom software clients and started a new company.  We are calling it CedarWaters (great illusion back to Cedar City days).  The site is going to be here:  We’ve been doing great and will have a great first month.

Here is a mockup of what the website design is going to look like when I launch the site in a few days.  Should be all sorts of fun, but please do keep us in your prayers.  Always a bit uncertain as well…

It’s been a couple of weeks!  So much has happened as always!  Crazy lives around here!

First off, the fall 2015 Fall Hamburger Challenge!

A couple of weeks ago Joseph was in the city Veteran’s day parade.  Here is a video:

This past week Joseph, Spencer and I made an awesome pinewood derby “no rules” car.  It has a CO2 cartridge in it!  It was amazing and the only one that actually got air at the event!  Here’s a video (play it in slow motion)

Howdy howdy howdy!  Another great week has come and gone in the VanD household.  This week seems a bit more exciting.  Here are some updates!

First off this past Monday Joseph has his UIL Marching Band Performance.  They made the finals in the area (big deal here!).  That means they are one of the top 10 bands in the area.  They didn’t make state this year, but they are headed in the right direction.  Here is a video of their performance:

Here are a couple of cute pics of our marcher.

He’s the cute sax pointing his toe there in the middle.

Rebekah also got to perform this week in her first football game.  Here is a picture of here and the other French Horns.

Here is a video of her playing.

Today she is going to play a song at church.  Here is a video of her practicing this morning.

This week in Kay land was pretty exciting.  She received a “positive referral” which basically means the teachers picked her out from other students for being kind to others.  Here is a picture of her receiving her award.

Besides that there was of course halloween!  Here are a few pics of the kids!  We have a magician, a witch, a snow queen, and a vampire. So exciting!

VanD Update 10/25

with one comment

Happy Sunday Everyone from the land of the VanDribblehoppers!  Another great week has come and gone and now take a few minutes… sit down.. put your feet up (Joseph says the wives should make some cobbler for everyone) and enjoy and update from the great land of Frisco!

This week was amazing… and by amazing, I mean… well… it happened.  The biggest news of the week was probably pretty much EVERYONE getting sick for at least a few days.  Fun…

Here is a picture of Joseph in his natural state this week:

Okay, it wasn’t that bad most days, but he was home for a few days.  We have had a ton of rain this week and they didn’t have to perform at the football game on Friday and their competition for Saturday got moved to Monday, so he is enjoying a few days off.  Everyone is well in the house now.. so that is nice!

He was feeling well enough last night to go to a stake dance… his second one… so that was of course amazing and right now was the highlight of the week.  🙂

Bekah also stayed home one day this week.  Other than that the most exciting thing in her life is her getting ready for regional tryouts for honor band.  Here is a video of her practicing her french horn.

Kay McChicken foot was sick one day as well.  She is one of the most motivated little buggers you’ve ever met.  She is always bugging me to give her some work to do at my work (building websites), so finally I told her this week that she needed to get some skills before she could do that.  And Kay being who she is said… like what?  And pushed me till I sent her some links to learn to code.  She started on a HTML course and is plugging along each day.  Here’s a picture of her next to her code.

Spencer is just enjoying life.  He was sick one day as well, but he mostly is doing well and playing with his legos.  Here is a little video we made this morning.  🙂

Here is Spencer and his “Cabbage” he got at school.  It is growing away.

This week was an exciting one for Debbi taking care of everyone.  The highlight of the week was when she saw a 18 min-loaf pan at the store that “had” to be bought (I was on board too!).  She made up some AMAZING pumpkin and apple treats yesterday for us… nom nom nom…

Besides that I’m just working away.  Always exciting things happening in my life at work.  Yesterday I went to a “Lonestar Coalition Against Pornography” conference that was FANTASIC where the founder of “Fight The New Drug” was there.   Joseph and Bekah came down for an afternoon presentation by him as well that as really really good.

This weekend is Stake Conference for us here, so I had lots of great training meetings last night as well and today.  Life is just moving along great!

We sure do love and miss you all!!!

Bonus picture of the week: Joseph rocking Kay’s scarf this morning.  🙂

VanD Family Update 10/18

with 3 comments

Hey All!  Sorry for the delay on posting this week.  I (Jeff) the primary writer of this amazing publication was out of town most of the end of last week at the second half of a WoodBadge (Scouting related) training.  It was amazing, but I was out there Thursday-Saturday.

So, I don’t have too much to post this week.  We are all just busy living the life of parents with growing kids.  A few points to talk about.

  1. It is getting colder here in Texas finally! A few days last week we had to actually put on jackets when we went to get Joseph from Seminary in the morning.
  2. Cooler weather makes it nice to go outside and sit on the porch.  Debbi bough some cool chairs and we have a front porch that we try to go out on often.  If we can’t find the kids they are likely outside reading on the porch… that is pretty cool to see.
  3. Our home continues to be filled with awesome piano music.  I love coming home and hearing the piano playing.  The kids are all getting so amazing!
  4. Joseph’s school had homecoming last week.  The band rocks, oh, and I guess that pregame show they have before halftime is also doing pretty well (which makes it fun for the band). joseph-band
  5. On Saturday his band got straight 1’s at the UIL competition.  That means they are going to district this weekend and if they do well they will be able to complete in state down in San Antonio…. it’s a big deal folks… remember how huge Texas is… 🙂
  6. This weekend at WoodBadge we came up with patrol flags.. I was thinking about how cool it would be to have a family flag and chatted with the kids about it last night.  They stayed up late and drew up some design ideas last night… it was way cool to see the stuff they put on there.  Family vacations.  Dinner at Grandma’s, PJ’s for Christmas… 5:30am scripture study (there was an alarm clock on one of them)… it’s the little things that create the memories for everyone.  I’m looking to order some leather hide online so we can make up our family flag… stay tuned.  I’m sure it will be awesome.  Here is me and my patrol flag at Woodbadge.  20151016_18514220151016_185153

That’s all I got right now… just trying to keep my hands and arms inside the ride!  Love you all!
